B& J Rubber Products offers a wide variety of rubber elastomers and cellular profiles to meet your application needs. Below you will find some general information about the characteristics and physical properties of many of our standard elastomers. For additional information about a specific elastomer, please contact us directly.

  • EMI/RFI Gasket Material
  • Silicone
  • Neoprene
  • EPDM
  • Nitrile (Buna-N)
  • SBR (Styrene-Butadiene)
  • Viton
EMI/RFI Gasket Material:
Wire Oriented: Gasketing material produced from the combination of specification grade silicone (available in both solid and sponge) and wire (aluminum or monel wires are standard). Used in sheet and strip form, the silicone elastomer acts as an environmental seal while the wires provide excellent conductivity to establish EMI/RFI integrity. Custom profiles are available upon request.

Standard Thickness (in.): 1/32 to 1/2
Order with or without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive).

Also available:
Expanded Metal/Screen Cloth Elastomer Filled: A composite of metal sheeting impregnated with an elastomer yielding a resilent, yet highly conductive material. Conductive Silicone Elastomers: Available in sheet and extruded profiles.

Silicone:

  • High resistance to both high and low temperature extremes.
  • Excellent weathering properties and resistance to ozone and oxygen attack.
  • Long service life.
Available in solid and cellular profiles.
Standard Thickness (in.); solid silicone: 1/32 to 1/4; silicone sponge: 1/16 to 1/2
Other thicknesses available upon request (see section on Laminating).
Order with or without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive).
Also available:
Fireblock silicone foam, flourosilicone, and vacuum blanket material.

Neoprene:

  • Great all-purpose elastomer with resistance to ozone, sunlight, oxidation, and various petroleum derivatives.
  • Good resistance to water.
  • Good tensile strength properties.
  • May be blended with SBR to achieve a more economically priced material.
Available in solid and cellular profiles.
Standard Thickness (in.); solid neoprene: 1/32 to 1/2; neoprene sponge: 1/32 to 1
Other thicknesses available upon request (see section on Laminating).
Order with or without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive).

EPDM:

  • Ideal for outdoor applications because of its excellent resistance to severe weather, ozone, and oxidation.
  • Excellent color stability.
  • Excellent heat resistance and resistance to aging.
Available in solid and cellular profiles.
Standard Thickness (in.); solid EPDM: 1/32 to 1/2; EPDM sponge: 1/32 to 1

Nitrile (Buna-N):

  • Excellent resistance to oils, solvents, and fuels.
  • May be blended with SBR to achieve a more economically priced material.
Available in solid and cellular profiles.
Standard Thickness (in.); solid nitrile: 1/32 to 1/2; nitrile sponge: 1/32 to 1

SBR (Styrene-Butadiene):

  • Good abrasion resistance and excellent impact.
  • Good for extremally demanding applications; resistance to hot and cold temperature; excellent for high compression loads.
  • Used as gasket material and as an economical general purpose material.
Standard Thickness (in.): 1/16 to 1/4
Order with or without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive).

Viton:

  • Good resistance to oil/aromatic fuels, mineral, animal, and vegetable oils, solvents and hydraulic fluids.
  • Good resistance to high and low temperatures.
Available in solid and cellular profiles.
Standard Thickness (in.): 1/32 to 1/4

Sponge:
Neoprene, Nitrile, Silicone, and Viton are also available in sponge form. Closed cell sponge is preferred for applications requiring high compressibility. Open cell sponge is preferred for cushioning applications where sealing is not an issue. The basic physical and chemical properties are the same as for the elastomers.
